Jump from 2,000 to 10,000 steps overnight and your feet, knees, and motivation pay for it. Build up in small steps instead. Here is the plan we use in the 30-Day Keep Moving Challenge.
Add 500 steps every few days
Start at 3,000. Add about 500 steps every two to three days. By day 27 you hit 10,000. Small jumps feel easy, so you keep going.
Hide steps inside your day
- Walk during every phone call
- Park at the far end of the lot
- Take a 10-minute walk after each meal
- Use the stairs for anything under 3 floors
- Walk the long way to the bathroom or kitchen
Track it where you see it
Use your phone, a smartwatch, or a free app. Check the number at lunch. If you are behind, take a 10-minute walk before dinner.
Keep it fun
Mix in rope-free jump rope intervals or a walking pad under your desk on busy days. Our fitness gadgets make extra movement easy at home.
Want a faster way to raise your fitness on the same walks? Try Japanese walking: 3 minutes fast, 3 minutes slow, 5 rounds. On busy days, a 5-minute 10-20-30 workout with a jump rope adds steps fast.
